Children Craft Ideas For Halloween by Amar Mahallati

Halloween is one of our favorite holidays for creative holiday crafts.

From cute spookiness to downright scary, there are Halloween creations perfect for all members of the family. As a parent or teacher, Halloween’s the perfect time to encourage a child’s imagination and get his or her creative juices flowing!

For the little bitty goblins in your home or classroom, handprint spiders are very easy children craft ideas for Halloween. All you’ll need is tempura or poster paint, paper, and wiggly eyes.

Paint your child’s four fingers and palm black (NOT the thumb).

Press the little painted hand onto the paper with fingers stretched outward.

Paint the other hand and press it in the opposite direction, overlapping the palm prints.

Add wiggly eyes for a cute little spider.

A personal favorite for Halloween is little tissue ghosts. I still have one of my daughter’s from 10 years ago! All you need is tissues, string or thread, and a black marker.

Have your kiddo wad up a small ball of tissue.

Place a full piece of tissue around the wadded-up ball, with plenty to spare at the bottom.

Tie a string or thread around the “head” part of the ghost.
Hang the little ghost in your kitchen, or make multiples to hang from a slow-moving ceiling fan!

For teens who trick-or-treat, how about a “designer” candy bag? Here’s what you need:

canvas bag
drawing paper
pencil
fabric paint
bric-a-brac or yarn
buttons, sequins, beads, ribbons
felt squares
scissors
hot-glue gun
(large-holed sewing needle for yarn)

First, sketch your idea on the piece of paper. Your teen can use the felt as a pattern. Perhaps she’d like a pumpkin, a bat, or a black cat. Once it’s cut out, stitch it by hand onto the canvas bag. Let her use her imagination to decorate the candy bag. Some paint, ribbons, buttons, and sequins should do the trick!

Another of our favorite, family-fun, children craft ideas for Halloween is also very easy to create - it is a “bush ghost”. All you need is a white bed sheet, black craft or fabric paint, clothespins, and an additional surface that can absorb the paint (like papers from your recycle bin).

Lay the sheet over the recycled papers.

Paint the face of a ghost on the lower half of the sheet.

Let it dry.

Take the sheet outside and place it over a bush.

Use clothespins to gather the sheet behind the bush and anchor it to the bush.

Try this idea as a pumpkin, too, using a dyed orange sheet!

Old and young alike are eager to take part in children craft ideas for Halloween. After all, what other day of the year do you get to dress up in a funny costume and eat candy?

Popular Halloween Party Games For Children by Pauline Travers

Halloween is a favorite holiday for many children, second only to Christmas. Dressing up as your favorite character and collecting a huge amount of free candy is hard to beat for a kid. One way to you can add to the fun of Halloween is by throwing a Halloween party for your children and their friends. In order to do this well there are a number of things that you will need. You’ll want food, drinks, decorations and props. Also, just in case the children start to get bored, it’s useful to have a few Halloween party games ready for them to play. Often, the kids themselves can organize their own games but, depending on the age of the children, it might be wise to provide adult supervision to prevent the play becoming too boisterous.

Coming up with Halloween party games that will keep your kids entertained may be the trickiest part of the planning so here are a few simple and inexpensive ideas. Use them to create a fun and entertaining party for both children and adults alike.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt

The classic Halloween Treasure Hunt is a great party games for kids of seven and up and will keep them entertained for a long time. Choose easy to find items and some that are well hidden. The children should be split into teams of mixed ages and given lists of the items that they need to search for. Make sure most of the items have a Halloween theme. If you need some assistance with choosing items to include on the list, there are many websites that have printable scavenger hunt lists that you can use. The team that collects the most items within a designated time period or the first team back with all of their items are the winners of the game.

Bobbing For Apples

Probably even more of a classic than the Halloween Scavenger Hunt is bobbing for apples. The only items you will need for this are a large container for holding water and a bag of apples from your local grocery store. If you’re having a large party with lots of kids, a toddler’s plastic wading pool makes an excellent container to hold the water and has the advantage of being large enough for several kids to bob for apples at the same time.

Fill the container to a depth of 8 to 12 inches to allow the apples to float freely. Drop the apples into the water and let the children kneel down and try to remove an apple from the water using only their teeth. You can group them in sets of two or three if you like to make it more fun. Obviously, this game, like many Halloween party games for kids, is best played outdoors to prevent mess inside the house. However, make sure game is supervised at all times by an adult. The child who extracts an apple the fastest should be the one that gets the winner although you may want to give all the children a little prize regardless.

Other Halloween party games for kids include beanbag tosses, variations of pin the tail on the donkey like stick the fang on the vampire, truth or dare and contests such as best or most unique Costume. These can be judged by adults or voted on by the children themselves.

Halloween Party Game Prizes

The most obvious Halloween party prizes will be candy since the aim for most children on Halloween is to collect as much of it as they can. Other prizes might be pencils, erasers and small toys. However, the most important part of your party is making sure that the guests enjoy themselves.

Halloween party will make a nice change from trick or treating for most kids and having some games prepared will go a long way to making sure they all have a fun time. There are a large number of websites with Halloween party games for kids on the internet, if you are looking for more ideas. Many of these have game ideas, instructions and even forms you can print out to help you throw a successful Halloween party.

Are you planning a Spooktacular Halloween Party in October and need Ideas? Here are a few to get you started…

1. For the Kids: Why not have a neighborhood Block Party? Let’s face it Parents will feel a lot better knowing their children are at a neighborhood party with other Parents they know and trust. This can include Pre-Teens and even Teenagers who still like the idea of celebrating Halloween but do not want to look un-cool by participating in the “Trick or Treating”.

2. “Trunk or Treating”: This is a New Idea started a few years ago and is catching on. This can be done at your local Community Center, School or Church or even on your street. The concept is Parents decorate the trunks of their cars and the children come by and receive Treats. Pretty Simple and loads of fun.

3. Office Halloween Party: Even grown ups like to have some fun. An afternoon Halloween Party or Lunch-Time get-together can be the answer. You can start by decorating the Lunch Room or Cafeteria with streamers and other Halloween decorations. Have each co-worker bring something Halloween-ish like candy or baked goodies.

These are just a couple of ideas to go on. I’ll have more soon.
